Temple B’nai Shalom Special Funds

• The Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund is designed for ongoing charitable giving.  All funds go to tzedakah and important Jewish/communal needs.  The fund supports worthy causes and charities, and helps congregants in emergency need of financial assistance.  Making a contribution to the Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund is an excellent way to remember or honor a loved one, celebrate a Simcha, or show gratitude to our Senior Rabbi while supporting causes important to Reform Jews locally and worldwide.
• The Religious School Fund is used to fund programs for Religious School students that would not be included in the regular educational budget.  The events include assemblies, speakers, and other special interest programs.  This is great fund for donations in honor of our Religious School teachers and staff.
• The Rabbi Amy R. Perlin Temple Beautification Fund was established in honor of Rabbi Perlin’s 20th anniversary as a rabbi in 2002.  Donations to this fund allow us to maintain the beauty and specialness of our beloved temple home.
• The College Youth Fund is used to pay for programs and mailings for our college students.  Past mailings have included menorahs and candles for Chanukah, matzo and treats for Passover, cards for Rosh Hashanah, and copies of the KOL newsletter.
• The Youth Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for our young people to attend regional and national NFTY events.
• The Jacobius Library Fund is used to furnish the library and provide books, periodicals, and other materials for the use of our congregants.
• The Prayer Book Fund is used to purchase additional prayer books and Torah commentaries.  This fund also is used to maintain our current prayer books.
• The Torah Fund is used for the acquisition and maintenance of our sacred scrolls.
• The David Kleinman Leadership Training Fund is used to defray the costs of supporting lay leaders’ attendance at URJ Biennial and other leadership development-related conferences.
• The Donna W. Courtney Memorial Music Fund is used to bring Jewish musical guest artists to TBS to entertain, inspire, and delight our congregation.  This fund was re-established in memory of Donna W. Courtney, beloved original TBS member, leader, teacher, volunteer, and music-lover.
• The Don’t Let The Lights Go Out Fund (Sustaining Donations) is used to support TBS operating expenses.  Dues, High Holy Days and Circles of Giving donation programs cover only about 85% of TBS operating expenses.  Sustaining Donations literally help keep the lights on.  Your generous donations to the “Don’t Let The Lights Go Out” Fund are not just for Chanukah; they sustain TBS operations every day.
• The Temple B’nai Shalom Rabbi Amy R. Perlin and Gary L. Perlin Endowment has been established to foster continuity of Reform Judaism at TBS and elsewhere, and to commemorate the invaluable leadership provided to TBS by Rabbi Perlin for 32 years.  Your donations ensure that Rabbi Perlin’s legacy will live on through our thriving Jewish community.
• The TBS Fights Hunger Fund has been established to support the various efforts that TBS takes to ensure people are fed locally and around the world. Some of these efforts include the annual, hands-on, international hunger relief program “Rise Against Hunger” that TBS co-sponsors with its neighbors at Christ Church, and support of Lorton Community Action Center’s urgent efforts feeding the hungry in our community.
• The Ryan Fund supports organizations that provide mental health and well-being services to both active-duty military and veterans, along with their families, who are experiencing challenges resulting from their service to our country.  This fund was established to honor the life and service of our beloved member, Ryan Jacob Cernohorsky, Sergeant, USMC.
